As universities seek to grow the number of students from diverse backgrounds, the impact of course (sometimes known as academic) advising will play an increasing role in ensuring student engagement and success, particularly in first year, but also in a student’s subsequent years.
The research shows that a coordinated, well organised and implemented course advising approach will provide the best chance of success for an institution to improve their student’s journey through their studies.
Watch DVE Senior Consultants Dianne van Eck and Emma Laurence as they speak to Dr Pete Muir, Manager First Year Success, about the implementation of the Southern Cross University (SCU) First Year Advising model. Based on research across the sector, SCU developed a program to employ a group of Course Advisors, many new to SCU, to work proactively with all first year students. Pete will discuss the program, the journey and the outcomes.
This webinar recording includes:
- The theory underpinning course advising
